My perspective of “the bully game” is one from a woman who is very new to the scene. My background is AKC, so this bully world is exciting, to say the least. I have been breeding and showing English Bulldogs for about 10 years, and I LOVE what I do. I exhibited my dogs in the AKC show ring for a few years, and was a member of the Bulldog Club of America (BCA), until I saw my first BLUE English Bulldog and fell in love. The BCA was against any new, off-colored, rare colored bulldog, so I was basically black-balled out of the AKC show ring. Then, I found the bully world.
I was very concerned when I decided to take the first step into the bully show ring with my English Bulldogs. Concerned that I was going to see all the things the news broadcasts to the world about APBT and bully breeds, and the dogs that are circulated on FaceBook that can’t function, much less walk on their own. I was pleasantly surprised!! My first “bully world” show experience was at an ABKC show. I took one of my close friends with me so I would have someone to talk with, since I didn’t know a soul. There wasn’t much EB competition that day, but we had lots of fun and met lots of extremely friendly people. In the last show of the day, my girl took reserve BIS, and I was HOOKED.
In the bully world, I am definitely a minority. I have seen mostly men, and very few ladies that breed, raise, or show bully breeds. I don’t feel intimidated at all, because competition is competition, no matter if they are male or female. In fact, I feel more comfortable without all the “cattyness” that can go on between women, and the cliques that can form. I feel that I have gained the support of my fellow breeders and exhibitors because I have passion about the dogs, all of them. I’ve been accepted as part of the bully family and I try to attend every event I can possibly go to.
I am crossing into different registries now, and am training to be a judge for the UBSR. And I am also co-founder and President of the English Bulldog Club of America (EBCA). Passion. It is the passion for the dogs that guides me and keeps me going. The recognition for the years of hard work, sweat, and tears shed for what I love, pushes me to do better than I have in the past. Being able to say that I am part of the “bully world” is great! I try to let everyone know that our world is not how the media portrays it to be.
CH Grizzy was produced by me right here at Windsor Rock Bulldogs. l have handled her at each show, all the way to her ABKC Championship, and it is exhilarating! I plan to continue showing her in ABKC to her Grand-Championship, and in the USBR for her Grand-Championship as well. I’m very excited to be part of the bully world, and I look forward to making a mark for my dogs.
